Brighid's Hearth
Welcome to the website of Cat and Aislinn McEarchern. We hope to share with you some tales of our life and times. We will also share some of our writings, rituals, and creative expressions. But first, let us introduce our brilliant hostess...

Brighid is the ancient Celtic goddess of fire. She has dominion over all things to do with fire, both physically and symbolically. Therefore, she is the goddess of the home and the hearth-fire that warms the family at night and is a center of daily life. She is patron goddess of blacksmiths and those who use fire to forge goods. Because she has so many ties to the creation of things through fire, she is also the goddess of imbas forsanii, or the "fire in the head" that is inspiration and creativity. She is a goddess of many talents: home and family life, creativity and inspiration, goods-making. Such was her popularity that when Christianity became the dominant religion in Ireland, she was made into a saint, and her worship continues today as St. Brighid of Kildare. We celebrate her gifts on this website.

The hearth symbolizes the center of the home and family, so the hearth section is where you will find stories and pictures of the things that make our home.

The Forge at the moment is a holding place for our activities and crafts. There is not much there now, but we have big plans for the future. Check back sometime - things are afoot!

Brighid, both as goddess and saint, is associated with many sacred wells in Ireland. Here, the well is the symbol of inspiration and creativity. These pages will have our written work on it, whether it is musings, articles, rituals, or whatever else strikes our fancy.
